so i just finished serpent & dove by shelby mahurin in one (1) day and GUYS. it's so good. anyway, here are some reasons to read it:

• witty banter
• pub songs
• morally grey characters
• female heroines who are feisty and stabby and curse-wordy and witty and sexy and more experienced than the male protags, but who are also allowed a wide range of emotions and femininity and laughter and enjoyment of life without any of it undermining the aforementioned badassery.
• cursing in french
• cursing in english (a lot)
• no hexes tho.
• just lots of glowy gold patterns and blood magic. a few potions too.
• "and there is a LOVE SCENE TOWARDS THE BACK."
• a bit murdery
• twisty plot
• knives and daggers 🗡
• hair braiding au
